How can we depict our culture and heritage through illustrations and a limited color palette? A four banner-system developed for my Experiential Design class that aims to answer that question. Inspired by my family's story and Bangali motifs.

FAMILY TREE

Traced back to my grandparents.

DETAILED FAMILY HISTORY

A brief history of my middle and last name, their history and cultural significance.

VISUAL RESEARCH

Alpona, Bengali bridal accessories, laal paad shada sharee (white saree with a red border), kantha. Things I think of when I miss Kolkata.

Existing banner designs that complement the limited color palette system.

COLOR EXPLORATION

BANNER IDEAS

What each banner signifies.

SKETCHING & IDEATION

Used Illustrator (in retrospect, wt..) to make 9 rough sketches for each banner.

Formed 4 groups of 4 by mixing and matching the rough sketches.

The final banner system was then chosen from these and further refined.
