Can South Asian textiles be preserved digitally? Is it possible to encapsulate their essence through generative coding? Can traditional art be replicated by human-coding? An ongoing project to answer questions I keep asking myself.

MOODBOARD

Finding points of similarity and difference between South Asian motifs and generative patterns that already exist.

BANDHANI VS CHLADNI

Bandhani is a traditional form of dyeing wherein the fabric is hand-knotted, and then dyed. The dye covers every single yard of the fabric except what was tied.

Chladni pattern is formed when sand or salt or anything granular comes together to form patterns on the nodal lines of a vibrating sound plate.

In essence, they're the same.
